set a Jets' team record for a rookie, of 740 receiving yards. He
led the entire NFL in receptions in both 1977 and 1978.
Wesley Walker had the most
catches of his career in 1983 with 61 catches, 865 yards, and
7 touchdowns, the most by any Jets receiver since George Sauer's
66 in 1968. He moved up to second in career yardage behind
all-time NFL leader Don Maynard, with 8,217 yards.
|
He went on to set several team
records, including the most touchdowns in a single game (4, accomplished
on Sept. 21, 1986), and the most points scored in a game (24).
Wesley was in two Pro-Bowls (AFC),
in 1978 and again in 1982 (which the AFC won, 16-13). |

In 1982, Wesley Walker was the Jets'
leading receiver with 39 catches, for 620 yards and 6 touchdowns. |
O.T. Thriller:
"In one of the most memorable games in club history, the Jets topped
Miami 51-45 in a wild overtime contest. Ken O Brien threw a perfect
strike to Wesley Walker from 21 yards out on the final play of regulation
to tie the score. In OT, Walker caught a club record 4th TD on a 43-yard
bomb at the 2:35 mark. (Sept. 21, 1986)."
Wesley had a record career
total of 71 touchdowns. |
Wesley Walker showed why he is considered
a "big play" producer with his forth straight season averaging
over 20 yards per catch (20.9). |
 |
Longest Pass:
Ken O'Brien throws the longest pass in Jets history a 96-yard TD to Wesley
Walker in a 27-7 win at Buffalo (Dec. 8, 1985).
And another vital catch:
“Remember when Wesley Walker made a 46 yard catch to the one (yard line)
to set up a score to beat the Raiders in the playoffs. Then Lance Mehl
clinched the win with two late interceptions.” |
| “...one of his most memorable games,
between the Dolphins and New York Jets... On Sept. 21, 1986, the teams
set an all-time NFL single-game record for passing yardage with 884. Ken
O'Brien of the Jets threw for 449 yards and four touchdowns, and Dan Marino
of the Dolphins passed for 435 yards and six TDs. The Jets won in overtime
51-45 on a 43-yard scoring pass from O'Brien to wide receiver Wesley Walker.” |
